phpbb is another type of bulletin board. i havent ome across smf yet

smf is another type of forum software obviously i believe it stands form simplemachine, since that is what there home page URL says, but here a short C&P description of it

Elegant. Effective. Powerful. Free. SMF is all of the above. SMF is a next-generation community software package and is jam-packed with features, while at the same time having a minimal impact on resources.

ive tried didnt like it, not the best forum software, but i guess its ok
