Default Buying a dedicated server

Hi all,
My company is going to buy a Windows dedicated server. But they are
concerned about if the purchased server is a real dedicated one or a
virtual dedicated server.
Is there any test for checking it?
Other question: Should we install any specific antivirus software on
the web server?

any help is appreciated,

Nothing wrong with a high horse - you get a better view
Can't speak for others, but let me tell you (more or less) how I see those
two options ...

#1 Managed server - you can do what you like with the box but you don't
get root/administrator access unless you're prepared to waive the SLA and
jump into ad-hoc rates for self-harm fixes. Fee is a flat monthly rate
and includes security updates/service packs as applicable. We'll also
install/configure any packages that require the firm but gentle hand of
god.

#2 Self managed - you have god-like status on the server. You manage your
own installs/upgrades. However break it beyond your own means to fix it
and we'll reload/reconfigure the o/s and networking to get you running
again. Fee is ad-hoc hourly rate.

Plenty more differences, but that's the meat.

Well, I run/manage two load-balanced RHEL machines sitting on Verio's
network; Full root access to them both - I can change and screw them up as
much as I dare (or rather, as much as our liability insurance will cover
) - But if the fecal matter really hits the rotary impeller, I can get a
Verio tech to fix my mistakes (at $US 175 / hour, of course).
I think that what others are basically saying is that if you're a *nix
Guru, then by all means, go for a colo somewhere; If you're *not*, though,
it's worth the peace of mind and extra few bucks to know there's someone
keeping an eye on the troops in case you make an honest mistake and don't
want to be out of the water for more than an hour or two while it's being
fixed

Barney,

you can get a dedicated server from us - they are really dedicated and if needed you can always view it in our datacenter. www.dedicatedserverstore.com
