Default Would the 49ers move to Los Angeles?

Plans have been in the works since 1997 to build a new stadium in San Francisco when a $100 million dollar bond was authorized to help fund what would be a $600-$800 million dollar stadium.

Reading this article, team and city officials have acknowledged that the team would be open to moving if they cannot get this privately funded stadium built.

Quote:
The 49ers would consider moving to the city of Santa Clara if plans for a new San Francisco stadium fall through, team and city officials said Tuesday.
"If for whatever reason things don't work out in San Francisco, we need to have a backup," said Lisa Lang, vice president of communications for the 49ers.
With the bay area already having an NFL team in Oakland, do you think there is much chance that the 49ers could uproot and move to Los Angeles? I know the NFL would simply love it, and it would make more sense to me than trying to move teams like the Saints in.

Yeah, and I'm sure since LA already has teams such as the Angels (or Anaheim, I'm not sure of the difference), Dodgers, Clippers, Lakers..I'm not sure they'd want a bad team like the 49ers to come along. They didn't exactly have huge support for the Clippers during their terrible seasons, and there's not a whole lot to look forward to on this team other than Alex Smith and Vernon Davis.

Indeed, LA is by and large a town full of bandwagon-hoppers. They're not going to get any support at all until they improve drastically. Stay in the Bay area where the primary fan base is.

I understand what you guys are saying, but the premise is the 49ers moving if they cant get the stadium they want. If they were to move somewhere, seems like Los Angeles would be the most likely place. I am sure the NFL would do all it could to block a move to any other location.

Which isn't very much. The NFL is an association of owners, that's where its power comes from. If an owner decides to move his team, there really isn't that much that can be done about it.
