Default How much content is considered duplicate content?

This question has been asked many times before but I want some opinions
from the people who have been there already are doing it currently, and
not getting delisted or banned from adsense, and not just postings from
people who wan to post but don't really know.
Obvioulsy we all know the best money with adsense lies in some markets
that are pretty saturated and tough to compete in. My website is
primarily about things I know and like to write about, but
unfortunately for most of it, good paying keywords aren't there. I
make a decent amount of money in adsense but I'm not retiring or even
reducing my work load anytime outside of the house soon on it. I'm
tired of all the $97, 197, 297 deals out there that for the most part
don't give you anything new or you didn't already know.

I want to build some content around a few topics that are in the harder
to break into areas like debt, legal, medical, insurance, etc. in order
to bolster my adsense earnings. How would one use PLM content in a way
to get into the markets like these but not get penalized by using
duplicate content? I don't mind rewriting some of it, but not being an
expert in any of those areas, I don't to create a bunch of BS pages
that won't be worth the text on them. How much of the original article
can you generally use safely without the penalty of duplicate content
or become just another spam page?

If you have done this before successfully, I'd love to hear from you
and your suggestions. I'm open to real honest opinions and not a lot
of hype selling me another ebook of rehashed info. PM is ok if you
have something you'd rather not post here but no big sales pitches
please. If you consider yourself to be an informed individual on the
subject please let me hear from you. I'm open to good "low priced" or
"FREE" suggestions for software and scripts that truely worth their
money.

I know that there are intellengent individuals making good incomes from
adsense and that would like to share some wisdom with us all. I have
pretty good html skills so creating pages is not an issue. Thanks to
all in advance for helping in getting a "good informational thread"
going here.

Duplicate content is... duplicate content.

What I want to say is:

If I have the answer how your question is solved in software,
and I write it down in public,
then some softwaremakers are not going to be happy with me
have to start all over again,
and my answer will be outdated.

My idea:
Stick with your passion,
there is most likely less competition there
therefor easier to attrackt more visitors.

Any other ideas and opinions most welcome!

I would agree with Stef, especially regarding your situation. However,
if your passion is money and the topic doesn't matter much . . .
I'd suggest maybe you look into an aggregation model.

Maybe put together reviews of the content sites out there that make
sense to you from the layman's perspective.

As they say 'Everyone's a critic' so put that to use for yourself and
go review the content and make that the value added component / service
that you provide.

If it works well for you and you retire, real fast look me up, My Pay
Pal account always works!

I suppose that I am fortunate in that I am a writer (And even
create some of the materials that people frequently purchase for 97,
197 and 297 LOL Though I do not use it on my site as I write it as
canned copy and forfeit the rights to it) You seem to be fairly capable
with the proverbial pen, so why not try spending some time with your
project. Working at home is still going to be work and unfortunately
there is no way around that. Try gathering all of the information about
subjects that are relevant to your site and take the time to write them
out. At this point in time I manage a PR1 and I honestly do not know
how. I have not advertised my site and most of my content is for
separate materials, so I have no targeted traffic to speak of. I will
be working on changing that in the near future. However, quantity and
quality both seem to be very relevant. Writing your own materials,
especially ten or twenty pages of related content may not be the
quickest way to go, but you will know that it is relevant and original.
That is what I am going to be working on as I have time, but for now I
have all separate articles all relating to different topics. I would
not recommend that approach.

Well from my angle our search engine when indexing a website checks every 1k of code indexed, against the other entries in our database, often we get warnings of duplicate content found which may be a group of words in a sentence, that are the same as those found within another webpage from within the same site or from a different website.
This is often descriptions of products or services and is quite normal, some are however blatant copying of code or webpages to try and increase a sites scores or levels of content.
We either remove the entire site or overdide the warning depending on the way that it looks when we view it manually.
Some are the same code in use within seven or more domain names, often owned by the same company or person we delete these entries.
Some are just a group of words that are the same and they are not a problem.

Writing unique content is the best. I wrote an article about Pawnbrokers of all things the other week and after a TV programme one night my website got loads of hits over the next few days with people looking for information about investing in Pawnbroker companies

Sounds like a popular thread. I have been penalized only once regarding my duplicate content. I was using wikipedia articles among other sources. Google didn't like it.

Original content is THE way to go. If you can't make a site without duplicate content, then don't bother registering any domain for that.

Cheers
