As you know, you can't get a true idea of a newsgroup
or a forum just by dropping in for an hour. The OP needs
to lurk there for at least a week to get an idea of things.
As for people not claiming to be making a decent living,
I tend to think the people who talk less are the ones who earn
more.
One of the secrets about affiliate marketing is exploiting a niche.
You really think any one with any sense is going to go spouting
off about how well they are doing on a particular keyword or product?
I agree with your part about having other products or services on
the site though, it isn't just a case of throw up a 100 sites and just
sit back and hope for the money to start coming in.
You tend to get out of it what you put in, but the rewards are there
for those who are serious about it, and it is a far easier way to make
a good living than a lot of other jobs.
